Team USA beats Switzerland 7-2 in junior hockey quarterfinals; Czech Republic shocks Canada
OTTAWA James Hagens and Ryan Leonard each scored twice as Team USA defeated 7-2 at the World Junior Hockey Championships on Thursday.
But Canada was upset 4-3 by the Czech Republic on home ice and was eliminated in a blowout semi-final.
The Americans advance to Saturday's semifinals to face the Czech Republic. Sweden and Finland play the other semi-final on Saturday, with the championship match on Sunday.
The Wilds 2024 first-round pick, Denver defenseman Zeev Buium, had a goal and an assist for the USA, which also got goals from Danny Nelson (Maple Grove) and Brandon Svoboda.
