How Notre Dame hockey rallied past Penn State at Wrigley Field
CHICAGO Perhaps all Notre Dame hockey needed to revive its season was a goal from a third defenseman.

Although it seemed an unlikely winner on paper, veteran Irish coach Jeff Jackson knew Helliwell's capabilities in a shootout.
We have shootouts every Thursday (in practice) and I watch which guys score and watch our goalies, and Ryan scores in the shootout, Jackson said. I had him on my list, and I actually had him a little higher than I used him, because you also kind of go by how guys play. I was happy for (Helliwell) because Ryan had a tough year as a junior. He's done a really good job here as a senior, and that's what you hope happens: to end their career on a positive note.
Morale boost for Notre Dame
The Irish (7-12-1, 2-9-1 Big Ten) had lost nine straight conference games as of Friday, even though Jackson thought they played well in their most recent series against Ohio State before Christmas.
