DULUTH A Duluth man was charged on Thursday, January 2, in connection with the theft of hockey sticks from a team bus outside the Holiday Inn downtown on Saturday morning.

Cole Allen Saice, 23, was arraigned in St. Louis County District Court, where he made his initial appearance. He is due back in court on January 27. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

A bag containing approximately 40 hockey sticks belonging to members of the Mankato West High School boys hockey team was reported missing on Saturday morning, December 28. The sticks were collectively valued at $12,000.

According to the complaint, security camera footage showed a man walking down First Street toward the team bus around 5:09 a.m. and was then seen carrying a large duffel bag. He returned to the bus less than an hour later and was seen trying to open storage compartments on the bus before crashing into the alley behind Chum, 125 N. First Ave., at about 6 a.m. W. was seen with the bag and a hockey stick.

A man in similar clothing was also recorded in the lobby of the Tri-Towers apartment complex early Saturday, giving police a clear picture of a suspect.

The bag was discovered late Saturday night by another man, who said he found it near a dumpster near Chum.

On Monday afternoon, Duluth Police Department officers contacted Saice about an unrelated incident and noticed he was wearing shoes and a hooded sweatshirt under his jacket that matched those of the theft suspect.

According to the complaint, when asked if he was the person seen on video with the stolen duffel bag, Saice responded affirmatively and indicated that a second party, identified only as “Bear,” wanted to “get in on the action” with what he was doing. do laundry.
