Saint Lucia is expected to field a small team later this year at the Pan Am Junior Games taking place in Asuncin, Paraguay from August 9 to 23.
According to Saint Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) President Alfred Emmanuel, only three or four federations can currently qualify athletes for the multi-sport event as a number of member organizations and administrators are unaware of the qualification mechanisms.
The Athletics Association, Aquatics Federation and Table Tennis Association are among the federations likely to qualify athletes for the games, with Sailing also likely to be represented.
Based on what we've seen, we don't think a number of associations are paying close attention. And as such, there are perhaps three or four associations that can qualify athletes for the event, Emmanuel said. St. Lucia Times.
We had a meeting with all the national federations closer to the end of 2024, and what some people did realize is that a number of qualifying tournaments were already over. So once your qualifying is over, you're essentially out of contention. There are some associations that really didn't have athletes that could meet the qualifying standards, so they didn't attend the meet. Emmanuel emphasized that it is the duty of national federations to keep abreast of the activities of regional governing bodies, relieving the SLOC of that responsibility.
