Cruz Hewitt trains with Jannik Sinner, Nick Kyrgios' political critic

Cruz Hewitt is surrounding himself with some of the best players in preparation for the Australia Open, but his latest hitting partner has caught the attention of a fellow Australian.

The 16-year-old took the court at Rod Laver Arena alongside world No. 1 Jannik Sinner to undergo training ahead of qualifying for the Australian Open.

Hewitt seemed thrilled to get to work with the Italian star, but he may have turned his relationship with him upside down Nick Kyrgios in the process.

Sinner will look to defend his title at Melbourne Park after an impressive run of success last season.

But the 23-year-old's success has not come without controversy after he recorded two positive doping tests, prompting heavy criticism from Kyrgios in recent months.

Kyrgios, a vocal critic of the doping saga, “jokingly” made his feelings known in the comments section of Hewitt's practice post.

“I love Cruz, but this is wild,” Kyrgios said.

“Cooked post…thought we were boys,” he added with a heartbroken emoji.

It didn't take long for the comments to gain traction as the tennis world reacted back to Kyrgios' actions.

“Cruz Hewitt posts a photo of himself training with Jannik Sinner. Nick Kyrgios immediately spams the pit with disparaging comments and sharp emojis,” tennis reporter Bastien Fachan wrote on X.

“This has gone way over the line. It is time for the tennis world to call out its intimidation campaign.”

Kyrgios responded to a fan's comment criticizing his behavior, writing: “It's a joke mateeeee hahaha.”

Sinner later shared Hewitt's post, saying: “Thanks for joining us, good hit!”

The comments come just days after Kyrgios made his long-awaited return to the professional circuit at the Brisbane International.

He teamed with Novak Djokovic and won one match in doubles before suffering a second-round defeat, while his singles campaign ended in a first-round thriller.

Hewitt will be back in action next week as he looks to make the main draw for the Australian Open.
