NEW DELHI: BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla expressed his strong disapproval of Cricket Australia for not including Sunil Gavaskar in the Border Gavaskar Trophy presentation following the Sydney test. Shukla highlighted that the prized trophy bears the names of both Sunil Gavaskar and Allan Border.

Despite his direct connection with the trophy, Gavaskar was absent from the presentation ceremony on Sunday.
The omission came after Australia's victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which marked their first series victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in a decade.

Social media users, including commentator Neil Mitchell, expressed their disappointment over Gavaskar's absence from the ceremony.
“Sunil Gavaskar seems like a nice man. Humble, for a cricketing genius. How on earth can Cricket Australia not let him present the trophy with AB? It's a terrible and embarrassing mistake,” Mitchell wrote on social media.
Supporting Mitchell's views, BCCI vice-president Shukla said, “I completely agree with Neil. It happened when Gavaskar was present in the stadium. The trophy is in their name and one of them was not invited on the stage. Who knows after four years or both will be present in the stadium? Both together would have been a rare sight.”
The series loss also ended India's hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, with Australia securing their spot.
Australia, who have clinched the BGT for the first time since 2014, will defend their WTC title against South Africa at Lords Cricket Ground in London in June.
