Tennis star Naomi Osaka confirms divorce from rapper Cordae

Cordae, real name Cordae Amari Brooks, has not yet publicly commented on the split.

The couple publicly confirmed their romance in April 2019, but the relationship has not been without its challenges.

It was speculated that the two had split just months after the birth of their daughter, with both Osaka and Cordae erasing any trace of their relationship from their social media. The pair also unfollowed each other at the time, although they later seemed to make up.

Osaka's confirmation of the split followed a cryptic message shared on her social media on Sunday, the same day she was forced to withdraw from the women's final of the ASB Classic in Auckland due to injury.

I have come to the conclusion that what is meant for me is also meant for me and perhaps certain situations arise to train my mind for what is to come, the four-time Grand Slam winner wrote on Sunday.

Maybe there are bigger and better things coming my way and I just have to continue the journey to encounter them. That said, this is going to be a great year.

The turmoil in Osaka's personal life follows her shock withdrawal from the ASB Classic final on Sunday.

The star, who represents Japan but grew up in the US, was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to an undisclosed injury.

Osaka looked in excellent form against Danish rival Clara Tauson, winning the opening set 6-4. She built a 5-1 lead in the second set before Tauson climbed back to 5-4.

Osaka was able to close the set on her own serve, but seemed uncomfortable and immediately called for help from a trainer at the end. A visibly upset Osaka was then forced to withdraw from the match, resulting in Tauson being crowned ASB Classic champion; her third career title and first since 2021.

A statement from the Womens Tennis Association (WTA) later confirmed that she withdrew due to an abdominal injury.

“I want to thank everyone for welcoming me to such a beautiful city and I had a lot of fun playing here and I'm really sorry about how it turned out,” Osaka said during a brief on-court interview on Sunday.

Osaka returned to the WTA Tour after about 15 months off at the 2024 Australian Open. At the time of writing, she is ranked No. 50 in the world.

Despite the injury, Osaka is reportedly optimistic about her prospects at the Australian Open, which started in Melbourne on Monday and concludes on January 26.
