League Cup 2024/25: Liverpool's Arne Slot wary of goal-hungry Tottenham Hotspur in first leg semi-final
Tottenham Hotspur are a dangerous opponent and Liverpool will have to try to avoid implementing their style of play when the sides meet in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final, manager Arne Slot said on Tuesday.
Liverpool and Spurs use aggressive and attacking styles of football, with the last match between the teams in December resulting in a thrilling 6-3 win for the Merseyside club.
Now that both teams have scored more than forty goals in the Premier League, another goal celebration could be on the cards.
Before going into the game, we expect two teams to have such a clear identity and playing style. Both teams are trying to impose that identity on the other, Slot told reporters before the match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Slot added that midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who was battling illness, was unlikely to start the semi-final tie.
The Dutch manager also defended Trent Alexander-Arnold again after the right-back faced some criticism from pundits for his performance in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United, amid reports of a move to Real Madrid.
I think we were all disappointed, not just Trent. We were all disappointed, Slot said.
Parts of our game that we weren't completely happy with. It wasn't just Trent, there were more things we could have done better. Trent didn't have his best game, but some of the others didn't have their best either. If you play 50, 60 games in a season, one of them won't be your best performance. Perhaps we should emphasize that these players are playing so well despite playing two matches in a week, he added.
Alexander-Arnold is part of a trio of key players, including top scorer Mohamed Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk, whose contracts are about to expire, but Slot has dismissed any suggestion that the uncertainty would affect the players on the pitch.
