Tennis player hits woman in front row with incorrect racket throw

A woman in New Zealand had a moment of shock on Tuesday when a tennis racket unexpectedly flew towards her.

The incident occurred during the first round of the ASB Classic in Auckland when Cameron Norrie hit a forehand return into the net.

Out of frustration, Norrie, who played in the same city where he was born, threw the racket behind him, but apparently he threw it a little too far.

The racket hit the woman in the front row and Norrie was given a warning.

The woman wasn't hurt and actually played it off quite well.

“[The fan] laughed, and I just said, “I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that.” And she said, Yes, I'm completely fine. That was no problem,” Norrie said after the match. “But as we've seen with some other players, if they get caught in the wrong spot or they're not looking or something like that, it's easy to default.”

The racket throw took place while Norrie was trailing 6-2, 5-3. He would lose that match shortly after to drop the match.

“It's not my place at all to do something like that. I apologized very quickly, and I want to apologize in general. I'm not happy with how I behaved,” Norrie said.

Norrie's exit in the first round comes two years after he reached the final of the tournament.
