Andy Murray apologizes after retiring from the Australian Open tennis event
Andy Murray made a self-deprecating return to tennis yesterday, apologizing to the Melbourne crowd for his 'terrible' performance in a charity match.
The 37-year-old Brit, who retired from tennis five months ago, was brutally honest about his current form before heading to court.
“Look, I'm terrible at tennis now. I've barely hit a ball in the last few months, it's getting ugly,” Murray told the crowd at Rod Laver Arena.
After losing the first game, Murray doubled down on his previous assessment, telling the crowd, “Sorry everyone, I told you I was terrible. I wasn't lying.”

Murray partnered Victoria Azarenka in the doubles match against Novak Djokovic and Zheng Qinwen at the Melbourne venue.
The match proved to be a hard-fought affair, with the first six matches shared between the pairs.
Djokovic and Zheng ultimately emerged victorious after taking victory in a tiebreak.
“The result is obviously not important tonight, what matters is that you have fun and that you do it for a good cause,” Djokovic said after the match.
The Serbian champion praised the crowd's enthusiasm, adding: “The fans are great, they respect the sport and they love tennis. And showing up in these big numbers is of great significance for all of us.”

The evening's entertainment also included a singles match between Djokovic and Alexander Zverev, with the German winning via tiebreak.
The evening ended with a wheelchair doubles match, in which Djokovic played with Tokito Oda against Dylan Alcott and Heath Davidson.
Murray's return to tennis comes as he takes on a new role as Djokovic's coach ahead of the Australian Open.
