Blues sponsor hockey doubleheader benefit for Colin Brown's family

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Monday Friday evening, the Centene Community Ice Center will open its doors to some of the best youth hockey teams from around the region, benefiting the family of Colin Brown.
The Affton Americans and CBC Cadets are no strangers to playing big games on the ice.
We had high aspirations for the season, said Affton Americans head coach Bob Jakubeck.
They will take the ice on Friday evening with a heavy heart.
All the boys are in various stages of grief, but continued with our season in an effort to honor Brownie, Jakubeck said.
Colin Brown, affectionately known as Brownie, was shot and killed on Nov. 23 while driving home on Interstate 55 with his father.
Never be whole, Jakubeck said.
That's why the Blues are helping support the Brown family by sponsoring a youth hockey double header at the Centene Community Ice Center in Colin's honor.
The rink is home to anyone who has a son, a daughter or a brother or sister, said blues broadcaster Chris Kerber.
During Friday night's doubleheader, Colins' club team, the Affton Americans, will take on a team from Colorado in a battle of teams ranked in the top 5 for their respective age groups.
Colin's high school team, the CBC Cadets, will play SLUH in the nightcap.
It will be a great environment for the boys, Jakubeck said. We couldn't be happier to be there.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Brown family, who are starting a youth hockey scholarship in Colin's name.
It's so important, Jakubeck said. I want his legacy to live on throughout my life.
