Tennis closes out day one at the FIU Invitational
COLUMBIA, Mo. University of Missouri tennis completed the first day of the FIU Invitational on Friday, January 10 in Miami. The Tigers posted a doubles win and four singles wins to kick off the invitational.
Missouri started the day playing doubles while preseason ranked No. 112 Mother Canet And Corina Rosso walked away with the 6-1 win over FIU's Baidaulet and Simeva. The Tigers competed in three more doubles matches but were unable to seal the victory.
Heading into singles, Mizzou saw Canete keep up the pace and defeat Florida Atlantic's Smejkal. Freshman Gian Octa, Zoe Lazar And Sara Hartel also earned wins on the first day. Octa and Lazar finished in straight sets, while Hartel fought through a third set to win the match.
Freshman Corina Rosso and oldest Sophia McLellan played hard-fought three-set matches, with Roso's third set going all the way, ending 7-5 in favor of Houston's Cortes.
