No. 11 Women's Hockey Blanks RIT, 3-0 – Penn State

 


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.The No. 11 Penn State women's ice hockey team (18-4-1, 9-0-0 AHA) defeated RIT (11-9-3, 4-4-1 AHA) 3-0 in the opening game of the series on Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Abby Stonehouse tapped the puck into the net off feeds from McKenna Walsh and Tessa Janecke in the slot to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead with 11:11 left in the first period.
  • Kendall Butze sent a feed in the defensive zone to Brianna Brooks. Brooks then moved the puck up ice and passed the puck to Katelyn Roberts. Roberts then handed the puck back to Brooks in the slot and she fired the puck into the net to give Penn State a 2-0 lead with 19:14 remaining in the second frame.
  • Lyndie Lobdell made a pass to Brooks in the slot and she then fired the puck into the net to give Penn State a 3-0 lead with 10:53 left in the third period.

GOALTENDERS

  • Junior goalkeeper Katie DeSa recorded 18 saves on the day. Her record improves to 15-4-0 this year.
  • RIT goalkeeper Sarah Coe recorded 45 saves on 48 attempts. Her record drops to 6-5-1 this year.

STATISTICS AND NOTES

  • DeSa earned her fourth shutout win of the year and seventh of her career.
  • The Nittany Lions earned their fifth straight win of the season.
  • Janecke (136) is now one point shy of tying all-time career points leader Natalie Heising (137).
  • Brooks recorded her second multi-goal game of the year.
  • This marks the nineteenth time in program history that Penn State has shutout RIT.
