Shakib Al Hasan: Bangladesh all-rounder continues to be banned from bowling in international cricket after failing re-Test
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is still banned from bowling in international cricket after failing an independent review of his action.
Shakib, 37, was banned from bowling in England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) competitions after being investigated for his bowling action in his only appearance for Surrey in the County Championship last season.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) subsequently confirmed the ban which was extended to all domestic cricket competitions outside Bangladesh and in international cricket.
The BCB said on Saturday that Shakib failed a re-evaluation in Chennai, India last month, but added that he is eligible to play as a specialist in all forms of cricket.
Shakib has previously said he plans to retire from international cricket after the Champions Trophy in March, but Bangladesh must now decide whether to select him as a batsman only in their 15-man squad for the 50-over tournament.
Former Tigers captain Shakib has played 71 Tests, 247 one-day internationals and 129 T20s for Bangladesh.
He has already withdrawn from the T20 internationals and has almost certainly played his last Test for Bangladesh, who do not have another Test scheduled before the Champions Trophy begins on February 19.
The slow left-arm spinner was suspended from bowling in December after tests at Loughborough University showed his elbow extension exceeded the 15-degree threshold allowed by ECB rules.
His action was flagged by the on-field referees in a match for Surrey against Somerset in September.
