Men's tennis opens the spring season on Sunday with two matches at Notre Dame
KALAMAZOO, Mich. The Western Michigan men's tennis team opens the 2025 spring season Sunday with a doubleheader at the University of Notre Dame against Duquense and the Fighting Irish.
The Broncos open the day against the Dukes at 2 p.m. and take on UND at 6:30 p.m. at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
Western Michigan is coming off a historic senior fall season Anton Arzhankin compete in the NCAA Men's Singles Championship. It was the first time a Bronco had done this since Bob Learman in 1977. Arzhankin won the MAC Indoor Qualifying Event to earn a spot in the ITA Conference Masters Tournament. From there, he recorded victories in the Round of 16 and the Quarterfinals to advance to the Semifinals, where he fell to Pacific's Tiago Silva in straight sets. All four tournament semifinalists then advanced to the NCAA Men's Singles Championship.
Sunday's match will also feature WMU's nationally ranked senior doubles team Brogan Pierce and freshmen Jack Davison. After winning the MAC Indoor Qualifying Event and competing in the ITA Conference Masters Tournament, Pierce and Davison open 2025 ranked 109th in the ITA Men's Doubles Rankings. The duo won 5-1 in the fall.
Western Michigan returns to Kalamazoo on Friday for two matches as part of a Bronco Tennis Triple-Header. The men open the day against Marquette at 10 a.m., then the women's team will take on the Golden Eagles at 2 p.m. The men will then be back in action against Ferris State at 6 p.m. All three matches will take place at the West Hills Athletic Club and admission is free.
