Vacant land to be provided to sports clubs to strengthen infrastructure: Shimla DC
At a meeting with the Table Tennis Association here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said the Shimla government would make efforts to provide available vacant land to various sports associations in a bid to strengthen infrastructure.
It is very important to strengthen sports infrastructure to stem the growing menace of drug addiction and attract youth to sports. Efforts will be made to make suitable vacant land available to sports clubs at various locations in the district through the Sports Council, so that the sports infrastructure can be improved.
2025 will be all about promoting table tennis as part of the campaign against drug addiction and encouraging the youth to take up sports, Kashyap added.
He said an inter-school table tennis competition would be held at the district level
in May.
Table tennis was a game based on alertness, he said, adding that there was a lot of talent hidden in the rural areas of the district, which if discovered and trained could bring glory to the state and country .
The DC directed officials to hold a District Level Sports Council meeting soon so that the vacant posts of coaches could be filled through outsourcing or other means and facilities could be provided to the players.
Those present included Deputy Commissioner Gopal Chand Sharma, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Rakesh Dhauta, Table Tennis Association Secretary Abhay Lakhan Pal and other officials of the association.
