ISAIAH JACKSON JOINS THE FOOTBALL COACHING

South Dakota State has filled its final coordinator role on a new football coaching staff with the appointment of Isaiah Jackson to lead the special teams units, head coach Dan Jackson announced Saturday.
“Isaiah is part of our football family and I have been impressed with his growth throughout his career,” said Dan Jackson. “I was very impressed with how his units played last year and he will be a guy who can build a really strong culture within the special teams, but also have great relationships with everyone on the team.”
The hiring of Isaiah Jackson marks a return to Brookings for the Chandler, Ariz., native, who played as a linebacker for the Jackrabbits from 2006 to 2009. He ranked fifth on the team with 63 tackles in 2008 and tied for seventh with 52 stops as a senior in 2009, when the Jackrabbits made their first appearance in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs.
For the past eight seasons, Jackson has been part of the coaching staff at UC Davis, which won a Big Sky Conference championship in 2018 and earned a berth in the FCS playoffs three times (2018, 2021, 2024). He primarily coached the linebackers before moving to special teams coordinator in 2024.
Jackson began his coaching career at the University of Sioux Falls and spent the 2010 seasons as a graduate assistant linebackers coach for the NAIA national champion Cougars, followed by three more seasons working on the team's defensive line. He then moved to West Virginia State, where he coached special teams, linebackers and the defensive line from 2014 to 2016. He also coached twice with the International Federation of American Football, including helping lead the American National Football Team to the 2015 IFAF World Championship.
In addition, Jackson participated in the Bill Walsh Coaching Fellowship with the Arizona Cardinals in the summer of 2022.
Other hires to the SDSU football coaching staff were announced earlier this week, including offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Eric Eidsness and defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Brian Bergstrom.

South Dakota State finished the 2024 season with a 12-3 overall record and earned a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference title. The Jackrabbits won back-to-back Football Championship Subdivision national titles in 2022 and 2023 and are riding a streak of 13 consecutive postseason appearances into the 2025 season.
