Men's tennis opens 2025 schedule in South Bend
South Bend, Ind. The Duquesne University men's tennis team opened its 2025 schedule on Sunday, traveling to South Bend to take on host Notre Dame and Western Michigan. The Dukes dropped a 7-0 decision to the Fighting Irish before falling 7-0 to the Broncos. Duquesne falls to 0-2 overall this season.
RESULTS AT NOTRE DAME
Notre Dame secured the early point by winning all three doubles matches. On the first slot, juniors Keita Duclos And Alfredo Vogelaar fell 6-0 to Sebastian Dominko and Peter Nad when they were freshmen Enrique Lana And Uvan Patel dropped a 5-2 decision to Kryan Magimay and second-ranked Chase Thompson. In the third singles, juniors Chris Cianciotti And Pierce Manning lost to Yu Zhang and Jamerson Corsillo 6-0.
In the singles competition, the Fighting Irish took control as they won all six matches. Duclos fell 6-4, 6-2 to first-ranked Dominko, while Lana dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to second-ranked Zhang. At third single, Vogelaar was eliminated by Thompson 6-0, 6-0 before Patel lost to Magimay 6-2, 6-1 in fourth position. In the last two slots, Manning was handed a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Nad while a freshman. Theo Papadopoulos lost a 6-2, 6-4 match against Corsillo.
RESULTS VS. WESTERN MICHIGAN
Western Michigan would take the opening point as it secured all three doubles matches. Duclos and Patel fell to Brogan Pierce and Jack Davidson for the top spot, while Papadopoulos and freshman Tancredi Alfano lost a 6-1 match to Anton Arzhankin and Drew Evans. In the final doubles position, Lana and Manning lost 6-2 to Ashton Adesoro and Oscar Corwin.
The Broncos continued their momentum throughout the singles competition, winning all six matches. In the first slot, Duclos fell 6-0, 6-1 to Arzhankin, while Lana dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match to Pierce in the second position. At third singles, Patel was handed a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Corwin before Cianciotti dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Davidson in the fourth spot. In the last two positions, Papadopoulos fell 6-3, 6-1 to Antonopoulos, while Manning was handed a 6-1, 6-2 defeat to Kajzer.
