Ajinkya Rahane praised the efforts of the Mumbai ground staff, who were felicitated by the Mumbai Cricket Association as part of the Wankhede Stadium's 50th anniversary celebrations, stating that they had made “significant” contributions for cricket in Mumbai.
Rahane, captain of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team, on Wednesday interacted with the MCA groundsmen working at various locations such as Wankhede Stadium, Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy at Bandra Kurla Complex and Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana in Kandivali, in northwest Mumbai.
“During matches, every team expects a quality pitch and a well-maintained pitch. However, the hard work of the groundskeepers often goes unrecognized. It is easy to criticize, but few take into account the effort that goes into their work,” said Rahane.

As a young person it was great to have the opportunity to spend time with the great Boycott, to listen to his advice, it was a great learning experience,” he recalls.
“I remember my very first match in Wankhede was an under-14 match. There are a lot of memories here, like winning the Ranji Trophy, playing for India. I have so many good memories, that every time I play the Wankhede enter the stadium, feel that positive atmosphere.
