Men's tennis opens the season Friday at Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. (January 16, 2025) The University of North Alabama men's tennis team returns to action for the spring 2025 season on Friday with an indoor road dual against the Auburn Tigers.
Championship season is here for the Lions, who start the year with a solid test against Southeastern Conference competition. UNA looks to build on the success of the previous season in 2024, following a semifinal appearance at the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and a postseason trip to the UTR Sports NIT Tournament.
North Alabama enters the season with high expectations, with the Lions expected to be a top three team in the ASUN. UNA was picked by the league's head coaches to finish third in the ASUN Preseason Poll.
The game serves as the first of two games in January, with the Lions also set to face Belmont on January 26. The full 2025 schedule will be released at a later date.
The match will take place at the Yarbrough Tennis Center with first service scheduled for 4 p.m. Live stats will be provided before the game courtesy of StatBroadcast, and fans can also watch the action live via streaming from Auburn Athletics.

FALL 2024 SUMMARY:North Alabama recorded 92 wins in the fall campaign and competed in five events in preparation for the 2025 season. In September, the Lions won 50 combined games, including 20 wins at the Samford Invitational and 30 wins at the EKU Invitation. North Alabama followed with the ITA Regionals and CCB Invitational in October, posting 13 wins at the ITA tournament and 20 wins at the Birmingham invitational. The Lions had two CCB Invitational champions in senior doubles Nazar Fedoryshynjunior Lachlan brainsecond year Alberto Altur and freshmen Samu Dominguez leave as champion. The UTR Sports College Circuit closed out the fall season finishing with nine UNA wins and Brain secured the men's singles championship.
SCOUTING THE LIONS: North Alabama looks to set the tone early for the 2025 season, opening against an SEC opponent for the third time in four years. UNA returns six contributors and five starters from the 2024 season, with all five starters coming from the top five flights. In all, North Alabama returns a roster with 124 individual wins in singles and doubles. Nazar Fedoryshyn appears to provide senior leadership, while Lachlan brain and sophomores Be Orgiles And Birtan Duran looking to build on the new season after receiving ASUN Conference honors in 2024.
SCOUTING CASTLE: The Tigers also kick off their season on Friday, opening against the Mercer Bears before closing out the doubleheader against UNA. Auburn enters the new year coming off an 18-11 season in 2024 and ends the season with a second-round appearance in the NCAA Championship. The Tigers were projected to finish 13th in the 2025 SEC Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Auburn's head coach is Bobby Reynolds in his ninth season.
SERIES HISTORY: This marks the fifth all-time meeting between North Alabama and Auburn, with the Tigers leading the series 4-0. UNA last faced Auburn during the 2022 season and played the Tigers twice during the 2020 and 2022 seasons.
