Charges have been dropped against former John Glenn High School football coach
WALKERTON, Ind. (WNDU) – John Barron has his life back. He is no longer accused of constantly touching a student's buttocks.
Barron says the ordeal was devastating and turned him into a monster.
Barron is now speaking out about the case because it no longer exists. The Public Prosecution Service has withdrawn the charges.
Barron coached football at Plymouth High School and more recently at John Glenn High School for more than three decades. During his time at John Glenn, a student complained about his behavior.
The accusation was that I repeatedly and inappropriately touched this student's backside, which never happened. And where it allegedly happened was all on camera and so yeah, kids are kids, Barron told WNDU 16 News Now.
The prosecutor was not happy with what he saw. It dismissed the case against Barron. The dismissal document stated that evidence collected in subsequent investigations called into question the veracity of the original allegations.
I looked up the word truth. Do you know what that means? False. That's what truthfulness means. It's a nice word for them to say from the prosecution that they lied, Barron added.
Barron added that the student who filed the complaint against him was angry because he lowered her grade.
Nevertheless, he was told to resign or be fired and was immediately shown the door.
When asked how he found out the prosecutor had dropped the case, Barron replied: My lawyer called me. I was at work and I literally fell to my knees, and I cried because this was painful.
Barron says he doesn't want anyone to feel sorry for him. Having a year off from coaching allowed him to visit his son, who had just become a head coach in the Lafayette area.
The son made the trips worth it. He had an undefeated regular season.
