Pam Shriver's tennis trophies stolen after LA Palisades Fire evacuation
When it comes to the LA wildfires, Hall of Fame tennis champion Pam Shriver may be one of the biggest losers.
The broadcaster was first forced to evacuate her home during the devastating Palisades Fire, after which her car – which housed some of her most prized tennis trophies – was stolen from the Los Angeles hotel where she was staying.
I sympathize with people who have experienced a double disaster, being affected by these horrific fires and who have also suffered secondary trauma such as having a crime committed against your property. she told KTLA5.
Since the first fires broke out on January 7, police have arrested more than fifty people for looting or theft.
Shriver, 62, was on vacation with her children when the fires started. Her housekeeper evacuated her Brentwood home and rescued Shriver's four pets.
She moved with her children to a hotel in Marina del Rey, but discovered Thursday morning that her Dodge Durango – with her souvenirs inside – had been stolen.
I don't think their intention was to take the trophies; I doubt they are big tennis fans. They happened to be sitting in the back, she said.
It is not known which trophies were stolen, but during her illustrious career Shriver – along with her tennis partner, the legendary Martina Navratilova – won seven Australian Opens, five Wimbledonfour US open and four French Open doubles titles.
Shriver had this message for the person who stole her car.
Come on man, we have to get together, she said. Let us all feel a sense of community. . . let's do the right thing. This is not the time to cause people more stress, more worry and more lack of confidence that we feel safe.
