HUNTINGTON, W.Va. The Marshall University Tennis team (1-0) earned a 4-3 victory over the Cleveland State Vikings (0-1) on Friday afternoon in Cleveland, Ohio, to open 2025.
In doubles, Sophia Hurion And Alina Mokrynskaya started with a 6-1 win on court two over Tereze Vevere and Ella Franz. When the doubles was tied 1-1, Aisling McGrane And Nel Van Hout fought to a 7-5 decision on court three over Jenna Redmile and Filippa Frogner to seal the doubles point.
Hurrion used her singles momentum with a straight-sets win, 6-1, 6-1, over Redmile to make it 2-0 Marshall. Van Hout quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court six over Frogner.
Mokrynskaya then triumphed on court three over Vevere 6-2, 7-6(5), giving The Herd victory in the opening match of the spring.
