NORMAN The Oklahoma men's tennis team finished the opening weekend undefeated after blowing a 2-0 lead during a doubleheader on Sunday. The Sooners opened the day with a 4-1 win over Cornell before defeating UTA 4-0.

In the first match of the day, the Sooners took an early 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point. Junior Luis Alvarez and sophomores Kholo Montsi won the set against Radu Papoe and Rodrigo Fernandes 6-2. Shortly after, sophomore year Asahi Harazaki and freshmen Alejandro Melero took the doubles point with a 6-4 three-line victory, marking Melero's first win as a Sooner.
After injury retirement, Kholo Montsi picked up the win on fourth down to move the Sooners to 2-0 over the Big Red.
Heading into the second sets, the Sooners were only ahead by two courts after senior Jordan Hasson claimed the first set at number 5 and freshman Oscar Lacides won the first set after a tiebreak.
Hasson gave Oklahoma their second singles point by winning 6-4, 6-4, putting OU ahead 3-1.
Lacides won a first-set tiebreaker to clinch the match for the Sooners after winning 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the two rows.
Alvarez dropped his match to No. 23 Radu Papoe, 2-6, 5-7. Freshman Orel Kimhis match was stopped at 3-6, 6-3 and junior Bruno Nhavene match was stopped at 4-6, 6-3, 3-1.

To close out the doubleheader, the Sooners defeated the UTA Mavericks 4-0.
The Sooners took the doubles point with victories on the two and three lines. Harazaki and Melero set Oklahoma up for success with a 6-2 win, before Alvarez and Montsi won 6-4 to seal the doubles point. Nhavene and Lacides were leading 6-5 when their match was stopped.
Freshman Orel Kimhi came away with a quick 6-0, 6-0 four-line win to give the Sooners their second point of the night. Shortly after, Lacides came off the court with a 6-3, 6-1 win, moving OU closer to victory.
Alvarez won the match for the Sooners on the two-line with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Montsi had a 7-5, 3-1 lead in the three-spot before his match was halted. Hasson led 6-2, 3-3 and freshmen Vojtech Petr led 6-1, 5-4 before the competition ended.
Oklahoma returns to action on their home field on Saturday, January 25 as they host ITA Kickoff Weekend with a game against Tulsa at 1 p.m.
