ESPN airs Trump's message during college football national title game, sparking social media meltdown

ESPN decided Monday to air a message from President Trump during halftime of the college football national championship between Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Trump was unable to attend the game, which took place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, as he was celebrating his return to the White House and attending inaugural balls.

His message, however, was clear: “America's golden age has begun.”

“Hello my wonderful fellow Americans. This has been a historic and exciting day for our country. In recent years, our people have suffered tremendously, but from now on we are going to bring America back and make it safer, wealthier and prouder than ever before,” Trump said.

“Well, we have a nation full of compassion, strength and exceptionalism. By our power and might we will stop wars and bring peace to our world. We will be respected again, and we will be admired again like we have never been before. Many, many years from now, we will put America first, and in doing so, we will make America great again.

It's been a long season, but you've got two great teams, and go to the game and go out there and fight hard and fight fair and let the better team win. And I'm going to enjoy watching it. ESPN was criticized on social media for deciding to air the message.

Trump has previously been seen on ESPN during college football games. He attended the national championship in January 2020 when it took place in New Orleans.
