Djokovic defeats Alcaraz: Updated Australian Open 2025 Men's Tennis Bracket, Results | News, scores, highlights, stats and rumors

With the win, Djokovic advanced to the semifinals for the sixth consecutive Aussie Open he has played in, and denied Alcaraz the first Australian Open semifinal appearance of his young and successful career.

Djokovic has now reached the semi-finals Down Under 12 times and is two wins away from his 11th career Aussie Open title, which would add to his all-time record.

The 37-year-old Djokovic fell behind early against Alcaraz and things did not look promising when he needed a medical timeout late in the first set.

Alcaraz closed out the set when Djokovic returned to the court, but Djoker looked like a completely different player from then on.

Although Alcaraz is the much younger player at 21 years old, Djokovic managed to keep up with him and made an impressive comeback.

Nole took the next two sets and had Alcaraz on the ropes in the fourth after breaking him, but Alcaraz showed great courage in winning perhaps the point of the tournament to avoid a second break:

Alcaraz eventually won the game, bringing the score back to 4-3 in the fourth, and he had two break points in the next game, but Djokovic prevented them.

Djokovic eventually held serve to make it 5-3, and after Alcaraz made it 5-4 with a score of his own, the Serbian superstar closed the serve.

Despite losing in four sets, Alcaraz got the better of Djokovic in several statistical categories, including aces (10-5) and winners (50-31), but Djoker made far fewer mistakes.

Djokovic had just 27 unforced errors to Alcaraz's 40, and he was excellent on his second serve, winning 58 percent of those points, while Alcaraz won just 33 percent of his second serve points.

With Tuesday's win, Djokovic now has a 5-3 career record against Alcaraz, including winning four of the past five meetings.

Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in the 2024 Wimbledon final during that stretch, but Djokovic triumphed in the final at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and followed that up with Tuesday's victory in Melbourne.

Djokovic now advances to the semi-finals to face second-seeded Alexander Zverev, who is arguably the best active men's player not to have won a Grand Slam singles title.

The German is through to his third career Aussie Open semi-final but is yet to reach the final.

While Djokovic has a career record of 8-4 against Zverev, they have split their past four meetings, suggesting Thursday's match could be one of the best of the tournament.
