The College Football Playoff championship averages 22.1 million viewers, the third lowest since 2014
On Monday night, the College Football Playoff national championship averaged 22.1 million viewers, ESPN announced Wednesday. The Ohio State-Notre Dame game was lower than last year's Michigan-Washington showdown, which averaged 25 million viewers.
The final of the first 12-team Playoff drew the third-lowest viewership for a title game in the CFP era, according to data collected by Sports Media Watch. It surpassed Alabama, Ohio State's blowout in January 2021 and TCU's loss in Georgia at the end of the 2022 season. The first CFP championship (Ohio State-Oregon a decade ago) averaged 34.1 million viewers.

The title game drew the most viewers of the season. The Ohio State-Oregon Rose Bowl came in second (21.1 million), followed by the Buckeyes' victory over Texas in the Cotton Bowl (20.6 million).
