No. 7 Herentennis keeps number 24 Florida and insures a place on Ita National Indoors
NEW YORK The No. 7 Columbia Herentennisteam goes to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the second consecutive season after a 4-2 victory over no. 24 Florida on Sunday afternoon.
With doubles, Max Westphal And Sachin Palta Fast work by Adithya Ganesan and Ben Weintraub van de Gators in number 2, 6-2. Minutes later, the number 1 pair Michael Zheng And Nicolaas Kotzen Henry Jefferson and Tanapatt Nirundorn defeated 6-3 and took the double point.
Thanaphat VerzaWonges won his singles match against Ben Weintraub 6-0, 6-0 in number 6 and doubled the lead of the Lions. Zheng followed with an outright victory over Ganesan at number 1 and put Columbia on the edge of the victory.
The rest of the singles matches were fiercely challenged, with the Gaters gaining victories at No. 5 and No. 3, which reduced the lead of Columbia to 3-2.
After winning the first set at number 4, Hugo Hashimoto Overwidder an early backlog in the second set and took a 5-3 set before Tanapat Nirundorn took off different match points to force a tiebreak. Hashimoto surrendered and won 7 of the 8 points to decide the match.
The ITA National Indoor Championships are organized from 14 to 17 February by Baylor and SMU. Matchups and exact locations are determined at a later time.
