Oneonta mourns the loss of former football, basketball player
The Oneonta community mourns the loss of one of them. Malikih Montgomery is a former basketball and football player for the school. Both teams posted on Facebook to express their respect to Montgomery and his family.
Oneonta's main football coach Phil Phillips said Montgomery was loved by the team.
“Unfortunately, one of our former players, Malikih Montgomery, last night, Saturday evening, passed at a 2 -vehicle accident. Malikih returned home from the OHS Miss Tomahawk parade. Malikih was a great player for us for two years. He and his Brother.
“We are very sad about the loss of our newly graduated and will think of and pray for his family and friends.
Counselors and mental health therapists will be available for extra support if we open the school doors tomorrow, “said Oneonta City Schools Superintendent Craig Sosebee in a statement.
Sosebee said that Montgomery graduated from Oneonta High School in 2024.
