Frisco – The city of Frisco is preparing to organize the Dallas Open Tennis Tournament, which runs from 1 February to 9 February. The city expects the event to bring thousands of tennis fans and millions of dollars to the area, giving Frisco a worldwide stage.
“The hosting of sporting events is here in our DNA here in Frisco. It is a big driver for what we do here as a city,” said Jeff Cheney, mayor of Frisco.
Crews work 24/7 to transform the Ford Center into a Tennismekka. For the first time, the 9-day Dallas Open Tournament will bring some of the best tennis profs to Frisco all over the world after being held in Dallas for the past three years. Cheney says that this is the first major tennis event that the city organized when adding its brand as “Sports City USA”.
“More events such as this one when we organize the World Cup and the PGA championship will just keep putting us on the international stage,” said Cheney.
Even local companies lean on the excitement and expect a major economic boost. “So, our space in a few days from the first night, it will be wall to wall people,” said Derek Simms, who is the owner by organizing special pop-up events.
“We will serve lunch and dinner every day for thousands of people for the full nine days of the event,” Simms said. “Number four arranged Taylor Fritz comes in. He is doing a private party here. This is really going, really helping us to put us on the map. So we are enthusiastic about it.”
The city expects a turnover stimulation of $ 1.5 – $ 2 million, so that the road is cleared for more growth.
“But we want to continue to organize the world class events here in our community. This is just another spring in our cap,” said Cheney.
