Cricket in Cape Town – Hurstpierpoint College

During February, the Senior Cricket team ventured on a crickett tour to Cape Town, South Africa. Their journey started with a bus ride to Gatwick airport, followed by two debilitating long -distance flights, before they finally touch in the burning heat of Cape Town. They were warmly greeted by their Sporta representative, Mark, and their dedicated driver for the week.

Bozz of excitement of their arrival were enthusiastic to explore. Unfortunately, due to some wild again on Tafelberg, the journey was postponed until the last end of the week. However, the boys quickly settled in the lifestyle of Cape Town with Big Steakhouse Lunch on Victoria Waterfront.

The next day, after a much needed early night, the team became ready for their first game against the best school boy team in South Africa, Rondebosch Boys High. A nervous start saw the boys Kondebosch keep up to 131 – 4 by a drink at 17 overs, thanks to some turmy bowling from Oscar W and Fred I. With Spin in the match, Hurst, before Rondebosch had been piled up with 377, still started the team, but contributions from Oscar W and Oscar W and Oscar W and Oscar W and Oscar W and Oscar W and Oscar W and Oscar.

The next day was a rest day of competitions, but far from a day off. The team rose early for an unforgettable trip to the Aquila Game Reserve. The students were all very happy to see a series of local animals in the wild, from lions and hippo to zebras and ostriches. After some downtime at the swimming pool and a quick bite to eat, the team exchanged the reserve for the iconic Camp's Bay Beach. There they played Touch -Rugby, football and enjoyed a dive before they went into the city for a beautiful dinner in the sunset with a view of the ocean.

The next morning a new adventure surface brought to one of the famous beaches of Cape Town. After a warming and a fast lesson, the boys hit the waves with a variety of success, but with a lot of laughter and team spirit. Later that day it was time for game two against Paul Roos on a different picturesque land, framed by a view of the mountains. The team quickly realized how much the wind would be a factor, but well prepared. After losing the pitch, Hurst first hit. Paul Roos took the momentum and bowlen Hurst before pushing back hard into their own innings. Despite a tough bowling effort, Hurst just didn't have enough points on the board to turn the game.

Prior to their third competition, the team finally reached the top of the iconic table mountain via the cable car. The breathtaking views and countless photo moments gave the boys a moment to think about the incredible experience they shared. From there they left on a long trip to Somerset College. Under pressure during the power play, Hurst fought back with impressive, economic bowling of Spinners Oscar H and Alex K. Their innings started with a flurry of boundaries, including a spectacular six by Captain Ben W. The middle order worked hard to stabilize the ship after a series of fast wickets, but despite a strong partnership of Eddie. After the game, the team enjoyed a well-deserved steakhouse dinner, with genuine thank you shared for the coaches, local support and teammates.

On their last full day the team enjoyed a free morning. Some chose to relax at the balcony pool, while others explored Victoria Mall for souvenirs and gifts. In the afternoon they came enthusiastically for their last game a day/night match against bishops. Early Wickets from Oscar W and Henry O gave Hope, but the powerful middle order of bishops pushed them to an impressive total. Fatigue of the Lange Tour seemed to take its toll, because Hursts Batting did not run his potential. Nevertheless, the team showed a great character, the thorough debriefs and the chance to connect with their opponents, many players who exchange T-shirts and caps with the bishops' team.
