Neshaminy has a new head coach

The new main football coach at Narrow is familiar with the program.

“It's just a program that is rich in tradition and history,” said Nick Felus, who was confirmed on Tuesday evening by the Neshaminy School Board as the successor to Steve Wilmot. “It has been an extremely successful program over the years. Everything they do is the first class. It is something that attracted myself and my family.”

Wife Katelyn grew up in Churchville and played football in Villa Joseph Marie. They have three children ranging in age from 3 to 13.

Felus was the head coach at his Alma Mater, Penn Cambria (class of 1996), during the last six seasons, culminating in the first district 6 championship in school history and a trip to the Piaa class 3A State Semifinals in 2024. The Panthers ended up with a 14-1 record, that the best in school history. Felus, 47, won Altoona Mirror Coach of the Year Honors last fall.

Felus had been the head coach at Altoona High of 2016-18 and the attacking coordinator in Coatesville of 2009-15.

“With his passion, leadership and dedication at the game, we are enthusiastic about the future of our team under his guidance,” said Neshaminy athletic director Lisa Pennington in an official release. “Coach Felus brings a wealth of experience and a dedication to excellence that will inspire our players both on and outside the field.”

Felus, a teacher of science and social studies in the sixth grade and social studies, believes that “the energy I can bring to the table”, as well as his experience in district one, three and six, serve him well at Neshaminy.

Wilmot decreased January 23 after compiling A64-42 record in 10 years as Neshaminy head coach, who followed for 20 years as an assistant there. His teams won in 2016 and '17 for Suburban One League National Conference Championships.

Neshaminy went 6-5 last season and qualified for the District One Class 6A Playoffs and lost in the opening round. Quarterback Mike Eckart, Running Backs Carter Clee and Nahsir Moore, Offensive Lineman Milo Makes, Tight End End Lucas Stewart and receiver/defending Rug Mike Sassano are among the returning players of the 2024 team.

“They have many great football players back,” said Felus on Wednesday evening. “One thing that struck me is how difficult they play. That is one of the staples (from my teams).”

Felus is planning to meet the players next week and looks forward to playing in the Ruige Sol National and District One Class 6A, which he called 'the highest level of football in PA'.

“I would say it's a program that has a lot of potential,” he said. “I am very excited to go to work.”
