A jury in the NSW court, on Thursday, found the former Australian cricket player Stuart Macgill to participate in the range of cocaine in Sydney.
The 54-year-old, who was not guilty, admitted that he used cocaine and introduced his partner's brother to his drug dealer, Staatsomroep ABC reported.
According to reports, MacGill faced a single accusation of participation in the delivery of a forbidden medicine, about the introduction he made between his cocaineer and the brother of partner, Marino Sotiropoulos, in April 2021.
A group of men was arrested a month later in connection with the kidnapping of Macgill, who said he had been taken to an abandoned house where he was beaten and threatened with a gun.
The introduction would have resulted in a deal of $ 330,000, ABC News reported.
In the case of the crown, the introduction came down to setting up a drug supply because the dealer and Mr. Sotiropoulos reportedly organized a $ 330,000 deal for 1 kilogram of cocaine.
The jury heard that although MacGill's involvement was limited to the introduction, the dealer also participated in two other alleged supplies, including one in which he handed a bag of vacuum-sealed A4 paper instead of cash money to Mr Sotiropoulos' employees.
The dealer, who was referred during the 'Person A' procedure for legal reasons, gave evidence in the Court of District Court and Kroon Officer Gabrielle Steedman invited jury members to accept his account, of which she said it was supported by other information in court.
Macgill did not argue and his defense lawyers came into doubt about the credibility of person A and claimed that his behavior was deceptive and unfair in several respects.
After about seven hours of deliberations, the Jury did not guilty of the accusation of consciously participating in the offer of a large commercial amount of a forbidden medicine.
But he was found guilty of an alternative accusation to consciously participate in the delivery of a forbidden medicine – without the large commercial supply element.
Macgill, who played 44 tests for Australia, “showed little emotion” while the verdict was read, according to reports in Australian media.
