How IPL's rising valuation is ragging

The 18th edition of the Cash-Rich Indian Premier League starts in a weeks in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. These three streams contribute more than 95%to the total income of BCCIS from IPL: the sale of mediaettes (57%), income from franchises (26%) and sponsor deals (13%). More than half (55%) of the total expenditure of BCCIS on IPL goes as a transfer to franchises.

For the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008, the board sold broadcasting rights to the Consortium of India's Sony Television Network and the Singapore-based World Sports Group (WSG) 4,048 crore, for a period of 10 years. Within a year, the board has re -negotiated the deal with the consortium 8,200 crore for the remaining nine years.
Nowadays, the broadcasting rights of the tournament are spread over three companies: Disney+Star, Viacom18 and Times Internet. The deal closed BCCI richer in 2022 in 2022 with no less than 48.391 Crore, almost 12 times about the value of the inaugural deal.

Mutual profit
The second largest source of BCCIS IPL income comes from franchise considerations: this is the amount transferred to the board by IPL teams instead of annual reimbursement, franchise auction money, etc. In 2023, the 10 IPL teams transferred part of their income, 1,731 crore, to the board.
