Eastern Michigans Hockey Team of Ladies is unbeaten in the first season
Ypsilanti, Mi Winning is all they know, say members of Eastern Michigan University Hockey Team Ladies Hockey Team.
With one of the smallest gratings in the competition among 10 players, the All-Freshmen Eagles ended their inaugural season unbeaten with a 18-0-1 record.
They are now going to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2 Tournament with a chance of a national title.
I think we have the right 10 and that is the most important part, said first -year captain Sam Sitterly, who is also mentioned 2025 Womens Division 2 Player of the Year.
We had an unreal season, Sitperly said. I don't think it will be completely us.
The team secured the number 2 seed in the central region of the Achas Division 2 ranking. Head coach Taylor Costella and associated head coach Leah Mousigian prepare for more interest from potential players as the team goes to division 1.
It is literally eating, sleeping, breathing hockey, Costella said about the rapid success of the teams. And it sounds very cliché, but that is literally what it is.
Every hour outside the coaches, full -time jobs goes directly to the team, she said. They always recruit.
It is very easy to recognize good talent, Costella said. But make sure they won good children and good people? That takes a lot more time and effort.
Costella said there was a lot of interest in the team at the start, but in the end many did not do the mold.
Would it have been nice to have two lines? Of course, she said. But if five or six of those children do not fit into the mold, they were really a good fit, too team -way or human, it would have been a completely different season.
Sitterly said it was crazy how well the team can handle each other. They are extremely good friends, they said and her teammates.
Also outside the ice there was all for each other, said player Abby Tumpach. We are positive people. And if a person is struggling, there is several people to help that one person.
Tumpach and her teammate Avery Rutherford said they have gained confidence to be in the team.
I was terrified of coming here, said Rutherford, who is studying psychology. Like, all summer, I emphasized. But then I came here and I don't know everything that just fell into place, and it felt good.
Rutherford ran out of her very first match and remembered her coaches that I was so happy that I came here. Best decision I've ever made.
Normally, first -year students have seniors or returning players to show them their way, Sitterly said.
That was a bit difficult, she said. But at the same time it was a bit nice because they also covered the way we want, and we can show these people the ways we think.
