Jarvis & Ho sent the packaging in dramatic mixed double tie

Top seeds Tom Jarvis & Tin-Tin Ho were sensational from the mixed Doubles dumped in the first round by Robert Pelc & Sophie Earley at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships.

From a position of comparative strength on 2-1 up, the upper pair of Pelc & Earley (shown above) saw back to win 3-2 (4-11, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, 11-7) to go to the quarterfinalses.

That blew the competition wide open, with Josh Bennett the only athlete who was left in the field and previously won the competition next to HO in 2019.

This time Bennett plays alongside Letitia McMullan and they stop a fightback from Gabriel Achampong & Sienna Jetha before they rule 3-2 (11-7, 11-5, 8-11, 8-11, 11-5).

There was another long match, in which South North saw defeats as Max Radiven & Rachael Iles conquered Ben Piggott & Ella Pashley 3-2 (8-11, 11-2, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7).

Second seeds Joseph Hunter & Tianer Yu stood safely in three against Artur Veeck Caltabiano & Erin Green, and it was also 3-0 for Siraj & Jasmin Wong, silver medal winners from last year that defeated Adam Dennison & Saskia Key.

The other couples to continue, continued in Vier Connor & Anna Green against Jakub Piwowar & Darcie Proud; Rohan Dani & Mari Baldwin about Nahom Assedom & Luna Archard and Andrew Baggaley & Rebecca Savage against Isaac Kingham & Mabel Shute.

In the quarterfinals, Pelc & Earley saw their run continue, and by eliminating Bennett & McMullan, they made sure that two new names would be on the trophy tomorrow afternoon. The score was 3-1 (11-9, 4-11, 11-8, 11-5).

Baggaley is a rare face in mixed doubles and his partnership with savage looked like it would wear more fruit if they led Hunter & Yu 2-1. But the second seeds, which perhaps felt an opportunity to capture the title, came back to win at 3-2 (10-12, 13-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-4).

Siraj & Wong also had to turn their match against Dani & Baldwin who recovered from 2-1 to win 3-2 (10-12, 11-6, 5-11, 11-8, 11-6).

The green twins made it in three (4, 4, 11) against Radiven & Iles.

The semi -final and final are on Saturday from 12.15 pm.
