Umaine Black Bears Win Hockey East Championship
The hockey team of the University of Maine won the Hockey East Tournament by beating the University of Connecticut 5-2.
Boston, Massachusetts, the men's hockey team of the University of Maine secured its sixth Hockey East Tournament Championship on Friday evening and defeated the University of Connecticut 5-2 in TD Garden.
The Black Bears built up early momentum and scored twice in the opening period with goals from Lynden Breen and Josh Nadeau. Harrison Scott added a third late in the second to give Maine a 3-0 advantage on the way to the last frame.
UConn came on the board early in the third, but Taylor Makar replied halfway through the period to restore the lead of three goals. The Husky's scored again before Makar closed it in the last minutes with an empty neat goal.
The victory marks Maine First Conference Tournament title in more than two decades.
