Heather Knight Retired: England Cricket Captain to be replaced after the humiliation of Ashes
Heather Knight was fired as the captain of England after the 16-0 loss of her side in Australia.
Knight has been in position since 2016, but has supervised a difficult winter, with a series of victory in South Africa sandwiched between a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign and a tumultuous ashes tour through Australia.
On Friday, head coach Jon Lewis was also removed from his position after an assessment of the Tour led by England Director of Ladies Cricket Clare Connor.
Knight, 34, led the side in eight tests, 94 one -day internationals and 96 T20s, with 134 victories of her 199 games that are in charge.
“I have great fun to be the captain of England, it has been the most rewarding period of my career,” said Knight.
“But for now I am enthusiastic to concentrate on my batting and supporting the team and the new captain in the best way I can.
“Winning the ICC World Cup World Cup at Home Turf near Lord's in 2017 will always be a huge highlight, but as part of the enormous steps made in the women's game outside the field brings me just as much pride.”
Connor said Knight was a “excellent leader and role model”.
She only remains available for selection of England as a player, but the cricket board (ECB) of England and Wales still have to confirm who will be her successor.
Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amy Jones both have Deputten for Knight when she is absent because of injury, while off-spinner Charlie Dean has been advertised as a potential permanent candidate.
The summer summer of England starts with a White-Ball series against the West Indies from May, before they compete against India in June and July.
