Virginia Men Tennis | No. 6 Virginia Falls to No. 14 CAL 4-3
Charlottesville, va. The No. 6 Virginia Mens Tennis Team suffered on Friday (March 21) in the Virginia Tennis Facility in the Boars Head Resort.
The Cavaliers (11-6, 3-4 ACC) met to bind the game on three, but the Golden Bears (12-2, 5-2 ACC) came through in a third set of Tiebreak on Court Six to win the victory.
Cal took a 6-3 victory over Doubles Court Three to open the game. Within a few seconds of each other, second-year Dylan Dietrich and first-year student Rafael Jdar won 6-4 on Doubles Court Two just before Cal captured the double point with a 7-5 victory at the Top Dubbelshof.
Dietrich tied the competition for the Cavaliers and won 6-3, 6-3 over No. 37 Theo Dean on Court Two.
The Golden Bears took the lead with a straight set of victory over Court Three.
Jdar took a narrow victory at no. 9 Carl Emil Overbeck and came on the top in two tiebreaks to bind the game.
Cal withdrew for the front with a three -set victory over Court Four.
The last two games came down to the third set of Tiebreakers. In the court five, Grad student James Hopper, a 5-3 deficit gathered in the Tiebreak match against Fryderyk LechiTo-Wasiutynski, which saves two match points to take the Tiebreaker 11-9 and even the match with CAL.
With the match on three, the Golden Bears took a narrow matchbreak on right six and won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5) to win the victory.
