Champs !!! Bentley wins first Atlantic Hockey Championship, 6-3 above Holy Cross
Worcester, mass. Bentley won the first Atlantic Hockey Championship in the program history with a 6-3 victory over Holy Cross in the Hart Center on Saturday evening and earned the automatic offer of the conference for the NCAA tournament.
After 2-0 after the first period, the Falcons Vooruit rose with three straight goals in a period of just over four minutes in the second period.
Holy Cross tied the match 3-3 in the third period, but Bentley still scored three again during the last 11-plus minutes to take the championship home.
Sam Duerr Scored what the game-winning goal was at 9:16 of the third period with a shot from the blue line that came through traffic for the net.
AJ Hodges Voude by scoring the lead at 2:38 pm to give Bentley a 5-3 pillow. Kellan Hjartarson Brak a pass near the Blue Line of Holy Cross and the Puck brought to Hodges that broke into the offensive zone in the right wing with speed for a two-on-one.
Hodges moved a pass to Hjartarson whose shot was saved by Thomas Gale, but Hodges tapped in the rebound for the goal and a 5-3 lead.
Holy Cross then pulled Gale with five minutes to go and chased two goals. But Bentley has all sealed the championship when Nik Armstrong-Kingkade Scored an empty net from the defensive zone to bring the score to 6-3.
Tournament Most Outstanding Player Connor Hasley Made 17 Saves to win the victory.
Hasley, together with Nick Bochen And Nike Armstrong-Kingkade were appointed as the All-Tournament team from Bentley.
It was a slow start for the Falcons that after a few Power Play goals from Holy Cross Laat in the 1 with 2-0star period.
Bentley, however, rose ahead with three unanswered goals in just over four minutes in the second period.
Senior defender Tucker Hodgson it started with a goal from above the right faceoff dot after taking a cross-ice cream pass from David Helledy at 6:34 AM.
Armstrong-Kingkade it tied a pinpoint wrist shot at 7:11, with Stephen Castagna And boch on the assists.
Kingkade was involved in the structure to the third goal with a shot from the left wing that went wide from the net. Bochen took the rebound along the right-hand boards, drove on the net and lifted a shot over Gale to give Bentley a 3-2 lead.
Holy Cross tied the 3-3 with a power play goal from Devin Phillips 6:53 in the third period, but slightly less than three minutes later, Duerr Bentley brought in front again.
Bentley earned the automatic offer from Atlantic Hockey on the NCAA tournament. The NCAA selection show is on Sunday at 3 p.m.
