A first for Yu & Baldwin, while Drinkhall & Walker keep their title

Tianer Yu & Mari Baldwin are the ladies Doubles Champions and Paul Drinkhall & Sam Walker retained their title for men's double after they had dropped a match on the National Championships Mark Bates Ltd all weekend.

Yu & Baldwin started a strong start in the final of their women's doubles and took the first match 11-6 and it seemed that it would be a walkover for the combination, because they took a 6-1 lead in the second. Earley & Eccles, however, clawed back the shortage and settled in what would be a closely fought final between the two couples.

Yu & Baldwin got stuck to sneak the match 13-11 before they admit the third 10-12 and it became difficult to predict how the match would play with the Scorelijn at 8-8 in the fourth. But Yu and Baldwin were too good for their opponents in the most important points, took the last match 11-9 and secured themselves their first senior national titles.

In the meantime, Drinkhall & Walker retained their title in the men's final after they had not dropped the entire weekend, and with it Paulus to secure a record-similar 15th National Herin Grind title, which joined that figure at the Great des Douglas.

Drinkhall & Walker took the first match 12-10 and looked from the slightly sharper of the two pairs, but with little to separate the men. The second end remained tight, but Paul and Sam squeezed it 11-9 before they finished their English teammates with a few ruthless shots in the last game to win 11-6, which completed their impeccable championships.
