Former Captain Tamim Iqbal of Bangladesh is in the hospital after a heart attack during a domestic cricket match.
Tamim, 36, felt discomfort in his chest while in the field in the Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier League.
BKSP [the national sports institute of Bangladesh] Confirmed that the seizure was brought to the hospital for tests and then returned, only for his condition to deteriorate.
Plans to transport him in a helicopter were abandoned and he was taken in a further facility for immediate treatment.
A statement was: “A helicopter transfer was discussed with the team manager, but he was transferred to the KPJ Hospital and nurses, where a block was found in his heart after tests.”
Doctors carried out an angiogram and brought Tamim under observation, with an update from Bangladesh Cricket Board: “He is currently closely observing the coronary care department of the hospital.”
BCB President Faruque Ahmed, who reportedly visited the batter after canceling a board meeting, said: “We are very grateful for all doctors and specialists for their quick actions in this critical situation.
“The outpouring of concern for Tamim reflects how much he is loved and appreciated by the nation.
“The BCB keeps a close eye on its health and keeps in touch with the hospital's medical team.
Tamim played 70 test matches, 243 one -day internationals and 78 T20 internationals for Bangladesh between 2007 and 2023, with more than 15,000 points about the formats, including 25 centuries.
