2 former student athletes by Michigan say that intimate images were stolen by ex-football coach in lawsuit
Former assistant football coach Matt Weiss from the University of Michigan did not argue on Monday to federal charges, because two women submitted a Class-Action right case that claimed that they were the victim of a scheme to gain access to private student accounts.
Weiss was charged last week in a 3-Cingle charge after federal prosecutors accused him of gaining access to the digital accounts of 3,300 student athletes to download their intimate photos and videos. He did not argue with all the charges and was released on an unsecured bond of $ 10,000, according to judicial data.
Two women have sued Weiss, the University, the Council of Regents and the company that has managed the information from Student Athletes Weiss, to download personal information.
The women are “embarrassed, ashamed, humiliated and restricted” that their private information is accessible to total strangers and third parties, says the court case.
Federal researchers accused Weiss of the use of the passwords of his colleagues with increased access to the student athlete database to download personally identifiable information and medical data from more than 150,000 athletes.
According to Weiss' indictment, he used the information to gain unauthorized access to more than 3,000 accounts from students and alumni.
He then downloaded their private, intimate photos or videos from their e -mail, social media or cloud storage accounts, said the indictment.
Weiss was fired in January 2023, The Associated Press has reported.
The two women, only identified as “Jane Doe 1” and “Jane Doe 2”, submitted the lawsuit in the eastern district of Michigan as a potential class action claim. One is a former gymnast in Michigan from 2017 to 2018, and the other is a football player in Michigan who was in the school team from 2017 to 2023.
Their lawsuit claims several violations of the law by Weiss and the other parties, including violations of title IX protection, violations of their civil rights and violation of civil laws such as the computer fraud and abuse act.
