Chaos in Thai Olympic presidential elections! Candidate is walking outside
The incident took place during the annual General Meeting of 2024 of the NOCT at the head office on Si Ayutthaya Road.
The most important agenda of the meeting included the election of the NOCT Council for the period of 2025-2029 and the selection of the new NOCT president.
At 9.30 am the meeting started with the presence of the current executive team and the two presidential candidates – Sacai, President of the Tennis Association of Thailand, and Associate Lecter Pimol Srivikorn, President of the Taekwondo Association of Thailand.
Around 11 am, however, small chaos broke out when Sucai and his team left the meeting without giving any statements to the press. However, the meeting continued as planned.
Later, General Vitch Devahasdin after Ayutthaya also left the meeting, referring to the unfair selection of Olympic athletes who are eligible to vote.
Vitch, in his capacity as the NOCT Secretary General, said the media that if the presidential elections remain unfair, it must be canceled. He noted that more than half of the eligible voting members were running away, making it impossible to continue with the election. A new election is expected to be held in accordance with sports regulations at the end of March.
“If the other side continues with the election, a complaint can be submitted to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or the administrative court,” he said.
The controversy came from the voting rights granted to two new Olympic athletes instead of Kaew PongPrayoon, the Olympic silver medal winner of 2012, who did not have the right to vote.
Sucai proponents were strong against this decision and claimed it was unfair. Professor Charoen Wattanasin, the election chairman,, however, refused to reconsider, which led to the strike.
