PNWs from Lumich and SVSU's Barrio receive Gliac Tennis Player of the Week -Recognition
GLIAC –The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly prices after the eighth week of the 2025 tennis season. Purdue Northwest Sophomore Alex van Lumich and Sagagenaw Valley State Senior Adriana Barrio were selected for recognition.
Men's player of the week: Alex van Lumich, Purdue Northwest
Alex van Lumich continues to make waves in collegial tennis and this season earns his second Gliac Mens player of the week. The highlight of Purdue Northwest delivered an exceptional achievement at the weekend, which further confirmed its place among the top competitors in the nation. Currently ranked 26th in Doubles and 38th in Singles, Van Lumich showed his resilience and skills with important victories this week that contributed to the success of the teams. From Lumich, PNW helped to a 4-3 victory over Tusculum, in which a Straight set victory (6-1, 6-4) was obtained on #1 singles against Rens Verhaar. The highlight of the weekend came in a confrontation against Grand Valley State, where Van Lumich delivered clutch performance in both singles and Doubles. The duo collaborated with Dickson and Victor Lopes and Lucas Gonzalez got out in an exciting 7-5 victory at #1 Doubles. Later, in Singles, fought back from Lumich after dropping the first set to defeat Denys Zamaraiev with 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, so that another impressive individual victory was sealed.
Women's player of the week: Adriana Barrio, Saginaw Valley State
Adriana Barrio won both games for the week at the number one singles place to help the cardinals wipe the weekend and move to 2-1 in Gliac Play. She started the week with a three-set victory against Michigan Tech for a 6-2, 6-0 in her match against Lake Superior State.
