Gophers Hockey expects to be a star -first year student for NCAA Tournament
Gophers men's hockey earned a 2-seed in this year's NCAA tournament, and they will play 3-Seede Umass in Fargo, ND in the first round on Thursday evening. Head coach Bob Motzko confirmed on Monday that they will be without a first -year student August Falloon for three weeks.
“August Falloon will be out for three weeks, so we're going to finish a few bodies, but we had two weeks to edit our line -up, prepare yourself,” he said.
Falloon is a St. Cloud, Minn. Native who started his university career this season after having spent three full seasons with Tri-City in the USHL. He has been able to find some success on a loaded selection with two goals and three assists in 22 games.
Veteran -attacker Aaron Huglen was lost for the season after breaking a bone in the Big Ten Tournament -First -Round loss of the team against Notre Dame. Minnesota will have 17 days between games to plan life without Huglen and Falloon in the line -up.
Motzko did not explicitly say that Falloon will miss the rest of the season, but three weeks from Monday would post things on April 14, which is two days after this year's national championship.
The Thursday evening match of Minnesota against Umass is expected to start around 8:30 PM CT, and it will be broadcast on ESPN2. De Gophers are preferred to continue, but the winner will be confronted on Saturday opposite the winner of Western Michigan and Minnesota State-Mankato.
