Goa's Lloyd writes history with back-to-back gold

Goas Lloyd Fernandes wrote history by winning two consecutive gold medals on the Para Table Tennis National Ranking Championship and the Para Senior Table Tennis National Championship. Both events were recently held in the Sama Indoor Sports Complex in Vadodara, Gujarat.

Competing in the Mens Class-2 category, Lloyd showed excellent skills and determination. In the final of the National Ranking Championship he triumphed about Avinash Gopinathan by Tamil Nadu with a 3-1 win (11-6, 13-15, 11-8, 16-14). Lloyd continued his dominant performance and again passed Avinash in the Senior National Championship Final with an exciting 3-2 victory (11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9).

These back-to-back victories have propelled Lloyd to the number 1 ranking in India in the Mens Class-2 category, which marks an important achievement for Goan Para-Sports.

Goas Chetan Salgaonkar also participated in the championships and performed a brave fight in the quarterfinals of the Senior National Championship. He stood opposite Ravinder Yadav by Haryana in a closely disputed game and eventually bends out with a 3-2 score (8-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 7-11). Chetan currently has the number 5 ranking in India in the Mens Class-9 category.

The tournaments were organized by the Table Tennis Association of Baroda under the Auspis of the Gujarat State Table Tennis Association and the Table Tennis Federation of India.
