Pickleball is not the only paddle game: Topsp! N celebrates the art of table tennis

Recently it seems that everyone is talking about Pickleball, the fast-growing paddlesport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. But we still have a weakness for table tennis, so it looks like Glasgow Creative Studio Pim-pam.

In April they launch TopSP!

Organized at the Zuidblok of Wasps Studios in Glasgow, TopSP! N the tradition that has been determined by SP! N (2019) and Backsp! N (2022), creating a unique intersection of creativity, sports and social impact.

Stellar Line -Up

This year's contributioner list brings comic book artist Frank QUITY together, the Scottish landscape painter Robert Kelsey, hip-hop artist Bemz, and Signwriting specialists from Bungo Sign Co.

Other recommended artists are illustrator Agata Pietrusz, visual artist Craig Black, West African visual artists Osa Seven and Adaora Lumina and Glasgow-based duo Conzo: Globel.

The diversity of the participants speaks to the universal attraction of Table Tennis that, just like art itself, age, transcends background and geography. This universal quality is something that Drumchapel Table Tennis Club (DTTC), the beneficiary of the exhibition, has been defending for more than three decades.

DTTC is one of the largest table tennis organizations in Britain, with more than 300 members ranging from primary school children to Octogenarians who actively play every week. The club is an essential part of the Drumchapel Community Sporthub, promoting talent development, physical activity and social inclusion in Glasgow.

The previous Backsp! N-exhibition In 2022, more than 60 contained paddles designed by the artist, including works by Turner Prize winner Martin Boyce. The predecessor, Sp! N, in 2019, 42 paddles designed around themes of balance, resilience and strength, qualities embodied by both the sport and the communities it serves.

Beyond the hype

For PIM-PAM, a award-winning studio whose customer list Bentley Motors, Highland Park and UEFA includes TopSP! N More than just a statement from an exhibition about the sustainable cultural value of sport that goes beyond passing trends.

N is more than just an exhibition; it is a celebration of creativity, cooperation and community,” explains Luke McCarthy, founder and creative director at Pim-Pam. “By combining art with sports, we raise valuable funds for a club that has had a lasting impact on hundreds of lives in Glasgow and beyond.”

Being able to offer visitors to the exhibition on their favorite paddle designs, either personally or online until April 18, after which all non -sold documents will become available for direct purchase. All proceeds go directly to DTTC to support their development work.

The opening evening offered opportunities to meet contributing artists and to challenge some talented young players from Drumchapel on a specially made table made by Glasgow's Bungo Sign Co.
