Utah Hockey Club will not confirm 'Mammoet' name after apparently Lek

Officials of Utah Hockey Club would not confirm if “Mammoth” was their new name after it was reportedly leaked on Tuesday evening on the official YouTube channel of the team.

Fans and Media noted that the handle of the channel was changed from “@utahhockeyclub” in “@utahmammoth” on both the destination page and the URL. The channel was quickly deactivated and remained on Wednesday morning, but not before screenshots of the name change went viral.

Utah Mammoth was one of the three finalists in a fan voice in Delta Center to help determine the permanent name of the team that his inaugural season played in 2024-25 after SEG had bought and moved the former Arizona Coyotes franchise. Fans voted with iPads at stations around the Arena with the names, logos and potential branding for each option.

Originally the three voices were Utah Mammoth, Utah Hockey Club and Utah Wasatch, who was quickly exchanged for Utah Outlaws after the team saw an early mood.

Mammoth made the last four in the first fan voice last year.

Utah HC managers would not confirm or deny that Mammoth will be the new nickname of the team.

Mike Maughan, a director of the UTAH HC owner Smith Entertainment Group, said on Wednesday that “progress continues to explore all three the name options chosen by our fans as finalists. We are completely on the way to announce a permanent name and identity for the 25-26 NHL-Season when we do that.”

If they are pressed for an explanation about the alleged YouTube leak, Maughan would only say: “We are entirely on schedule to announce a permanent name and identity prior to the 25-26 NHL season.”

An NHL source told ESPN that the revelation for the new name and the logo of the team could come at the end of June before the NHL concept. This year's design is a “decentralized” event, which means that teams will make selections of their own sites instead of at one central location. That opens the door for Utah to have an event in Salt Lake City with team officials around the design.

In other UTAH HC news, the team announced on Wednesday that Delta Center, the home of UTAH HC and the Utah Jazz, will undergo a renovation to optimize the Sightlines of Hockey while retaining the proximity of basketball fans to court with the help of an ultramodern retractable seating system. It is a multi -year project that will also create a new main entrance and an open -air square.

The first-in-in-sort seat system offers space for an almost 12-foot variance in height between ice rink and the final lines for the court to offer optimum lines of sight for both the NBA and the NHL. Each chair in the Lower Bowl has a complete view of the ice at the start of the following season – the team estimates that 400 seats can currently only see one target network during the games.

The new hockey configuration adds capacity behind the goals and up and around the event tunnels on the north and south side of the lower bowl and improves access to seats behind the shelves.

When all renovations are completed, the seating capacity for hockey will increase from 11,131 to around 17,000 – with each chair in the upper and lower bowls a complete view of both goals – and the capacity for basketball will increase from 18,206 to nearly 19,000 seats.

“Delta Center was built for basketball. When you come and places the size of an ice sheet at that location with those sight lines, the geometry just doesn't work. So there you come up with the configuration of the Riser system. You think of the floor 2 foot,” said Jim Olson, president of the Jazz and Executive Projects.

“We definitely protect the basketball experience, but therefore create a great hockey experience where all seats can see all the ice,” he said.
