What happens at the border between India-Pakistan?

On Wednesday India attacked the Pakistani Punjab province and Pakistan-assessed parts of Kashmir, of which a military spokesperson said Killed at least 31 citizens and injured 46.

India explained that the original strikes were retaliation for the terrorist attack on April 22, in which at least 26 people were shot.

India accused Pakistan of supporting those behind the attack – a claim that Pakistan has denied.

The gradual retribution that India was carried out was called “Operation Sindoor”.

What happened to the IPL?

The Indian Premier League was suspended with immediate effect for a week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Friday.

The Vice President of the BCCI, Rajeev Shukla, said: “After they make an inventory of the situation and with the government, our stakeholders, franchisees and broadcasters, a new schedule will be announced.

“The franchises had also expressed a lot of worries about the players. So, kept in mind, this decision was made.”

The tournament is currently expected to return on May 16.

The IPL is one of the most lucrative cricket tournaments in the world and still has 12 games that are played in the group stage before the knockout rounds.

England would consider organizing IPL competitions if the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) receives a request to complete the tournament of the Indian and international cricket authorities, Sky Sports News Understands.

The ECB said on Friday morning that there has been a regular dialogue with the 10 English players involved in the competition through a combination of the ECB, their security advisers and the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA).

Jos Butler, Meeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Sam Curran and Jamie Overton can all be seen this year.

What happened to the PSL?

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been suspended indefinitely.

Initially, the PSL said that competitions would be closed in the United Arab Emirates because of escalating tensions with India, but the delay came “according to advice from Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif”.

It followed what the PSL said was “a deterioration of the situation”.

The game of Thursday between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings in Rawalpindi – set to involve English players James Vince, Tom Kohler -cadmore and Luke Wood – was postponed after a drone fell within the stadium complex.

Pakistan says the drone came from India.

What happens to English players in the area?

There are seven English players at the PSL, with James Vince (Karachi Kings), Luke Wood and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (both Peshawar Zalmi) accompanied by Sam Billings and Tom Curran, (both Lahore Qalandars) as well as Chris Jordan and David Wily (both Multan Sultans).

Prior to confirmation that the PSL had been suspended, the ECB also said that the advice of a foreign office kept an eye on any possible threat to safety.

A total of 15 people from the English game, including coaches and media representatives, are in a WhatsApp group, and it is clear that a group call took place on Wednesday to discuss developments with the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA).

The PCA stays in contact with them.

Is the india in England in question?

The ECB confirmed that the upcoming India test tour is expected to continue as planned.

India will be confronted in a series of five tests this summer, starting at Headingley on 20 June and ends on 31 July in the Kia Oval.

• First test: Friday June 20 to Tuesday June 24 – Headingley
• Second test: Wednesday July 2 to Sunday July 6 – Edgbaston
• Third test: Thursday July 10 to Monday July 14 – Lords
• Fourth test: Wednesday July 23 to Sunday July 27 – Emirates Old Trafford
• Fifth test: Thursday 31 July to Monday, August 4 – The Kia Oval

Are India and Pakistan planned to play each other?

India and Pakistan are then planned to play against each other in September during the Asia Cup.

The tournament is expected to be organized in India, but the location will probably be changed to Sri Lanka or the VAE.

Earlier this year it was decided that India and Pakistan will play matches through both countries at neutral locations during the next rights cycle until 2027.

This applies to the ICC Ladies Cricket World Cup 2025 (organized by India) and the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 (organized by India and Sri Lanka).

India has not played a match in Pakistan since the Asia Cup 2008, while Pakistan India has no longer played in a bilateral series since visiting the country in 2013.

It is expected that India will also travel to Bangladesh in August for six White-Ball competitions in preparation for the T20 Asia Cup.

What does this mean in the future for India-Pakistan competitions?

India men's coach Gautam Gambhir was on earlier this week, before Tuesday's air strikes, that the two nations should not play cricket matches against each other while the tensions remain.

He said to reporters: “I also said this: no cricket match or Bollywood or any other interaction is more important than the lives of Indian soldiers and Indian civilians.

“Competitions will continue to happen, films will be made, singers will continue to perform, but nothing comes close to losing a loved one in your family.”

Sky Sports' Michael Atherton said: “It is a very sensitive problem and things are much more important than cricket, but it is a reminder of how interconnected everything is in the epicenter of Cricket in the subcontinent.

“When these types of problems rise, it has significant knock-on effects on the game.

“India and Pakistan have not played bilaterally since 2013 and that now seems to be further away. They are now only playing in ICC events and that may not be possible at the moment.”

What impact could this have on cricket finances?

Telegraph Cricket journalist Tim Wigmore added to the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast: “The scarcity of India that Pakistan plays made it really valuable.

“You can't put a figure on it, but people I spoke to have said that it is not unreasonable to think that it is just as tenth as a tenth of the total ICC broadcasting rights.

“The New York Times Said it was bigger than the Super Bowl, which is certainly true in terms of viewing figures – about 400 meters pay attention to every game.

“Financially, every country could be hit as games in world events after India versus Pakistan gets more viewers than before as people in the fact that there is a world event when they play. It came for the ICC at a bad time.”
